Celebrities Light: Fiona Xie

I have mentioned in my previous post that the first Celebrities Light is none other featuring, the talk-of-the-town princess, Fiona Xie. 🙂

We have seen Fiona in many different roles such as a genie in My Genie, her bikini strip in The Champion and the recent tomboy in Just in Singapore, besides acting, she has also try out hosting different kinds of programme.

Fiona first appeared in 2000 as a calefare in Channel 5 (english channel) hit drama, Growing Up, in the same year, she also make a small appearance in PCK Pte Ltd.

After that in 2001, she was seen in Channel 5 (english channel) drama, War Diary (the VCD is available in laserfair), she was later seen in Channel 8 (chinese channel) comedy, My Genie. This comedy later rose Fiona to fame, up to date, Fiona is still remember for her role in My Genie. She was later nominated for Best Comedy Performer in Star Awards 2001 and eventually won Most Popular Newcomer and Top 10 Most Popular Female Artiste.

In the same year (2001), Fiona was heavily groom, we could also see her in variety programme such as City Beat and her LIVE hosting in PSC Nite.

In 2002, My Genie released the sequel, My Genie II, audience get to see Fiona every weekends in this relaxing comedy, however it came as a surprise when Fiona lose out in Star Awards 2002 without winning any awards.

Continue to work harder, in 2003, she was seen in Channel 8 doing minor roles in dramas such as (Health Matters and a Nokia release short film) and not forgetting variety programmes such as (Tiger Food Adventure Tiger and Innocent Moments). The most memorable one in the same year would be Home in Toa Payoh, where Fiona pair with Li Nanxing in this drama, someone whom is older than her in the show and reality. In the same year, Fiona lose out again in Star Awards 2003.

Fiona continued to major in Channel 8 in 2004, although mandarin isn’t her best (as minority/majority groups of audience complain) about that.

She was seen in Room In My Heart as the main lead, being Qi Yuwu and Pierre Png love interest but married to Chen Hanwei in the drama.

Later on, she was seen in Mediacorp Idol Drama, The Champion. In this drama, Fiona was seen doing a bikini strip with Jeanette Aw and Felicia Chin after losing a bet in the show. When doing the bikini strip, Fiona was seen in many news commenting about how big her boobs is.

She is later being label as a “sex symbol” after being seen in the bikini strip, many man magazines such as FHM got Fiona on the cover. The “sex symbol” icon became what the media/audience/fans describe today instead of her first fame as a genie in My Genie.

In the same year (2004), it became her 3rd consecutive years going home empty-handed in Star Awards 2004.

In 2005, Fiona is more on Channel 5 with programmes such as Coffee Talk & Hawker Woks with a total of 2 seasons in the same year. The only drama Fiona have in 2005 is Love Concierge, where she plays the sister of Jacelyn Tay and Ann Kok, in the same year (2005), it became her 4th consecutive years of not winning any awards in Star Awards 2005.

In 2006, Fiona is more on Channel 5 with the 3rd season of Coffee Talk & Hawker Woks, together with a drama, Maggie & Mee. The only Channel 8 programme she was involved in is An Enchanted Life, in this drama, Fiona is seen being a rebellious younger sister of Yvonne Lim, where she could do anything to get what she want on her hand, this drama became the first and only drama, Fiona being a baddie.

In 2006, Fiona won Top 10 Most Popular Female Artiste in Star Awards 2006 after losing for many years, her popularity was stable throughout the whole votings.

Her winning and appearance in Star Awards 2006 led her the label of 7 Princess being label with Jeanette Aw, Jesseca Liu, Felicia Chin, Rui En, Dawn Yeoh, Joanne Peh. This labels have been existing from 2006 till now, comparation/competition have been made throughout the years.

After winning her long awaited Top 10 Most Popular Female Artiste in Star Awards 2006, Fiona was seen in a modern period drama, Happily Ever After, that is the only Channel 8 drama Fiona have in the whole of 2007.

The success of Maggie & Mee in 2006, the sequel was released in 2007, Fiona role in it gotten her a nomination in Asian Television Actress under Best Comedy Performer Actress.

She was also seen in Channel U variety such as Campus Superstar 2, Hey! Gorgeous. However, all these didn’t earn Fiona a winning in Star Awards 2007.

In 2008, Fiona was seen in Channel 8 light-hearted comedy, Just in Singapore. In this series, Fiona played a tomboy/getai singer/pasar malam seller, the response of this show was good, the peak of the viewership even hit 30%, Fiona gotten many positive remarks based on her acting in the show.

After Just in Singapore, Fiona appeared in the big screen, as she starred as the main lead in HK movie, Rule #1.

Next, Fiona was seen in Channel U variety programme, U Are The One, which she host against variety queen, Quan Yifeng and Kym Ng. After that, she was seen in Channel 5 drama, Calefare.

In 2009, Fiona became the queen of the news, as she says no matter how hard she try, people just doesn’t give her the chance, she also say that she lost her passion in acting.

Things got better later, as Fiona receive a role in Channel 8 mega blockbuster, Together and a movie named Dragon Fist.

News spreaded out in July 2009 saying that Fiona have rejected her role in Together, Fiona stayed low profile and have been trying to run away from the media during the period of times.

She was later seen hosting Channel U food travelogue, Singapore Flavours and even being offered a few travelogue programme.

In Dec 2009, Fiona says in 8DAYS & I-Weekly that she would be leaving Singapore and go to HK with her new found boyfriend giving on the emotional support, her boyfriend can give her.
